July 30 The Four Passions at Grow Radio
July 30 was a special show. I played an hour of English/Scottish folk songs. Then an hour of soul/R&B.
When Rosalie died, I was starting to explore English traditional songs, starting with June Tabor's recordings. I decided to finally dive back into it. Went swimming around and found the following hour's worth of stuff, including some great and weird Scottish singing recorded by Alan Lomax, a handful of dirty songs and lots of unhappy wives. The Sea Shanty Lowlands is particularly lovely as well.
Not knowing I had another hour in the studio, I had to wash the UK right out of my hair, led off with an 8 minute plea by Ike and Tina Turner: Stop the Wedding Please, Please, Please. It was a good hour.
